The Annual UW-Madison Open Awards rely on community nominations to identify and celebrate the outstanding contributions of our faculty, staff, and students to the open source ecosystem. We encourage nominees from all areas of the open source field. Previous winners have been from the fields of: open access publishing, open data, open education, open source software and hardware, open science, and more.

- Impact: Nominee open source contributions must have had lasting impacts, widespread adoption, or made significant change for their community during the course of their career.
- Community: Nominees must be dedicated to the open source mission.
