Open Awards Nominations Are Open
The UW-Madison Open Awards are sponsored by the Data Science Institute, Open Source Program Office, and the Libraries. The awards recognize and celebrate those using open practices in their work and who are inspiring others to do the same.The awards also recognize that Open practices vary across academic communities including: open access publishing, open data, open education, open source software and hardware, open science, and more.
The awards will honor up to two winners each for the Open Source Award and the Open Scholarship Award, as well as up to two inductees to the UW-Madison Open Hall of Fame. You are encouraged to nominate faculty and staff (as individuals or teams) for the Open Awards through this form: https://forms.gle/VptatfALat3r4tJGA
Each winner will receive a $1000 award. Hall of Fame inductees will have their names displayed in the forthcoming UW-Madison Libraries Digital Scholarship Hub located in Memorial Library.

Open Scholarship Hall of Fame
- Nominate inductees to the UW-Madison Open Hall of Fame!
- For individuals, projects, or teams whose open contributions have had lasting impacts, widespread adoption, or made significant change for their community during the course of their career.
- Up to two additional inductees will be added each subsequent year.
Open Source Award
- For anyone in the UW-Madison community who has done significant work in open source.
Open Scholarship Award
- For UW-Madison faculty and research professionals at any stage of their career who have demonstrated a significant commitment to open practices through their work.
Nominations are due by end of day Friday, September 18th. Winners will be notified by October 2nd.
The review committee may make adjustments from the original nominations in response to multiple similar nominations or other considerations.

- Nominations require the submission of relevant contact information and a brief justification for the nomination.
- Nominees must be part of the UW-Madison campus community.
- Nominees may be individuals or teams.
- Self-nominations are welcome.
- Nominees do not need to be present at the ceremony to receive the award, though it is encouraged if possible.
